Hummer H2 Interior and Audio setup

2006 Hummer H2

For this scheme we upgraded a 2006 Hummer H2, stock interior to a full institution leather interior, and installed a institution Jl Audio sound system. Lets go over some of the install...

In Dash Double Din

First we started with removing the interior. Main reason why we start with the interior is, this takes some time, we prefer to get a head start on this part of our project. It also helps at the end of the project, so we are not waiting on parts. Once the seats are out, we proceeded with stripping the old leather wraps to get to the seat heaters. At the same time we started making a template for the new leather. This interior we used high capability black leather for the seats and audio rack. We also went with a white stitching and institution embroidery on all the headrests and on the audio rack. Along the way we added Led interior lights for mood under the seats and in the amp rack. The fulfilled, interior consisted of the following: new leather seats, Led interior lighting, Led mood lighting under seats and on amp rack, Kenwood Dnx 9960 headunit, 2 6" head rest monitors, one 10" monitor on amp rack, bass control on dash, and along with push to talk Gps. Each door received a Jl Evolution C5 component speaker, and our tweeters were settled on the door pillars

Now that the interior has been removed we move to the institution audio box. Lets go over how we want our sub box and amp racks. The best place to start is with the subs, we are using 2 Jl Audio 12"W7 subs enclosed in a sealed box, which needs 1.375 cubic feet per sub. The buyer with this vehicle wanted more "punch" or "kick" to the bass, thus the sealed box. In this application we used 1.25" countertop Mdf for the top and.75" Mdf for the rest of the box. Once you have built your sub enclosure to the right dimensions, you can see what room you have left over for other equipment. After your sub box is in place you can start the amp rack mock up. Figure out how you want them to sit and look, then build a secure mounting platform. You should be very right with the mounting of the sub bow and amp rack. If they are not secured properly they can cause serious injury if they come loose in a sudden stop or an accident. We always bolt our sub enclosures to the car to ensure safety. This is also a good time to add Dynomat or any other sound dampening materials needed. Now that you have built your sub box and amp display its time to pull and start wiring.

For this setup we used 16 gauge wire for drivers, 18 gauge for tweeters, and 14 gauge from crossover to amplifier. Next is the Stinger 6 channel audio Rca's and 2 video cables. Powering the principles we ran 0 gauge Stinger power wire and 4 gauge for the ground which will goes right to the chassis at the amp rack. Ultimately we added a 250 amp inline fuse close to our Stinger audio battery.(Remember always place your fuse as close to the battery as inherent in case your power line shorts out).

Now that we have a majority of our wire run we installed a Viper auto start and alarm. If you have never done this type on setup it is recommended that you have done professionally. Please remember most cars will wish further electronic units for coded keys as well as radio replacement. Never assume you just can setup a radio and be done. When it is not done properly it can cause many problems. Our H2 needed 5 devices installed so that the auto start and steering wheel controls would function correctly, as well as the Sirius radio and onboard Cpu. Now that we are done with wiring and all is hooked up, we run a complete test before reassembly. This is the time to schedule any extra devices that were installed. Once all devices are running properly, turn off the vehicle and restart it to complete set up.

Now that we have tested the principles we can start putting the new leathers on the seats and reinstalling them in the car. After its all back together we can setup or tweak the principles to its full capability, again remember this should be done professionally.
